Primavera with Sabor
We at Sabor were beginning to think that winter would never end this year, but now at last we're able to enjoy some warmth and sunshine - maybe we won't be dashing back to South America just yet... Meanwhile in the kitchen we've been busy working on a tropical journey for your taste buds with new dishes on our menu like saltenas, the Bolivian cheese empanadas, grouper margarita ceviche and an Ecuadorian prawn ceviche. New vegetarian options include Chilean humitas and pimiento relleno with a quinoa gratin, and for a taste of the sea on these warmer evenings try our Brazilian moqueca, or the pescado cartagenero.
For early birds our weekend brunch now features a thick burger of chopped Argentinian rib-eye steak with guasca (a Venezuelan take on guacamole), or why not try our Latin breakfast to get your day off to a really good start. We are now offering a Latin roast on Sundays, with a different choice each week.
Cocktails can be the highlight of any Latino outing, and at Sabor we've always been pleased to offer our own creations using unique Latin-American fruits such us lulo and mora. This summer though we decided we also wanted to revive some of the Latin Classics - try our piña colada made with fresh crushed pineapple, coconut milk and a generous slug of rum and you'll soon forget the sugary imitations of this delicious drink.
New Vintages
The wines of Chile and Argentina are as bold and flavourful as the Latin food we serve, and they compliment each other superbly. Come and taste some traditional grapes from Chile like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as new favourites like Malbec and Torrontes.
Food Source
The quality of our food and the source of it is one of our main priorities; since we opened in 2004 we have tried as much as possible to buy fair trade, as is the case with our unique coffee blend, also to support sustainable projects such as our supplier of organic fruits from Colombia, which provides training programmes for families of the workers.
Our meat comes from respectable sources such as Donald Russell based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, a butcher who specialises in grass-fed, traditionally matured beef and lamb, reared by farmers who care about their animals. Our very popular Argentinian meat is also grass fed, the meat is vacuum packed at source, they have the expiry date and place of origin clearly marked. All of our poultry is free range and our fish is also from sustainable sources, we do this by buying directly from source and regular early morning markets trips.
Latin-American national celebrations...
Our staff come from all over Latin America which gives us a lot of dates to celebrate! Independence from Spain was a decades-long fight for many South American nations who were inspired by the revolutions in France and the United States. We are planning to celebrate all the days with special menus, drinks and activities on each country’s Independence Day. The majority of these celebrations are held between May and September. Watch out for these dates and book ahead!
